Jeff Passan and Sara Rieke have been married since 2007, and they have two children. His wife, Sara, is a professional nurse who also works as a supportive wife and mother.
Jeff Passan is a sports writer for ESPN and the author of The Arm: Inside the Billion-Dollar Mystery of Sports’ Most Valuable Commodity. After graduating from Solon High School, Passan attended Syracuse University. While at Syracuse, he wrote for The Daily Orange and then began covering Fresco State basketball. He began covering baseball for The Kansas City Star in 2004 before joining Yahoo.
He joined ESPN’s Baseball team in January 2019 after 13 years at Yahoo! He has been on Sports Center and The Rich Eisen Show, among other shows. In addition, Jeff was named National Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sports Media Association in 2021, as well as the Dan Jenkins Medal for Excellence in Sportswriting in 2022.
Sara Rieke’s Married Life And Children
Sara Passan (née Raike) was Mary Beth Martz and Otto Raike’s daughter. Rockhurst University awarded her a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She worked as a nurse at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago as well. The specifics of her current job condition, however, are unknown. On January 6, 2007, Jeff and Sara exchanged wedding vows at Ellen Scripps Browning Park in California.
Following their wedding, the Passans honeymooned in Cancun, Mexico. The talented journalist and his wife, Sara, are the proud parents of two children. Their eldest son, Jack, is 15 years old, and their youngest, Luke (born in April 2012), is 11 years old. Jack and Luke are very close to their grandparents, with whom they travel frequently.
Jeff Passan Suffered a Back Injury
On July 17, 2023, the ESPN MLB expert claimed on Twitter that he injured his back in a yard-work disaster. He said that a large tree limb fell on him when he was cleaning up after a heavy storm in Kansas City.
“The good news is that I still have use of my arms, legs, and Twitter fingers,” Passan went on to say. “The bad news is that I have a broken back.”
Fortunately, even while healing, Passan will be able to carry out his reporting responsibilities. He also thanked his family, friends, and everyone at ESPN for their support, as well as the medical staff at KU Med for their care and attention. A day after the injury, he mockingly published a picture of a damaged tree on his Twitter page.
“This is the culprit,” claimed the caption. You can guarantee I’ll build a bat out of it.”
