Samuel Black was a fur trader and adventurer who worked for the Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) in the Columbia District, first as a clerk for the New North Nest Company (XYC) and then as a Wintering Partner for the North West Company (NWC).
He investigated the Finlay River and its tributaries in present-day north-central British Columbia for the Hudson’s Bay Company in 1824, including the Muskwa, Omineca, and Stikine, and his records were later published by the Hudson’s Bay Record Society in 1955.
