Richard Winters was born in New Holland, PA on January 21, 1918. U.S. Army officer who commanded a Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division during World War II. Historian Stephen Ambrose described Winters’ war-time heroics. He participated in the Normandy Invasion, parachuting onto the French beach in the early morning hours of what would become D-Day.
