Suila and Aoatoa Polamalu gave birth to Troy Polamalu, a former professional football player who spent 12 seasons in the NFL. His mother, Suila, was a part of Troy’s life and had a significant influence on his upbringing and career.

He was raised in a large family, the youngest of five siblings. Troy Polamalu is a retired American professional football player best known for his 12-year career as a safety with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League. Polamalu hails from Garden Grove, California, and attended Douglas High School in Winston, Oregon, where he excelled in football.

Despite sustaining a season-ending injury in his senior year, he made an unforgettable mark on the pitch, showcasing his ability in a range of sports such as baseball and basketball. He later played collegiate football for the USC Trojans and was selected a first-team All-American. In the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to the Steelers’ success, including vital roles in their two Super Bowl victories.

Meet Troy Polamalu’s parents: Father Aoatoa and Mother Suila.

He is from a Samoan family that originated in Garden Grove, California. Troy’s mother, Sheila Polamalu, raised him and his siblings as a single parent after his father abandoned them when he was four years old. Troy Polamalu’s father, Aoatoa, played collegiate football.

He made a name for himself in college football as the nose tackle on the 1986 Penn State team that won the national championship over Miami. Sakaio, Suila and Troy’s eldest brother, faced legal issues and a terrible life after abandoning his family. Despite their challenging circumstances, Troy and Sakaio found comfort in playing football together.

They were always playing against each other. Troy’s life changed when he was eight years old and spent three weeks in Tenmile, Oregon, with his aunt and uncle. He was enthused by the beautiful surroundings and voiced his desire to reside there permanently.

When he was nine years old, his mother took him to live with his uncle, aunt, and cousins in Oregon to keep him away from any negative influences in Los Angeles. Troy recalls his strict upbringing to his uncle, Salu, who played a significant role in shaping his personality.

Polamalu Football Family

Polamalu comes from a footballing family. His father was a college football player who then pursued a different career. Similarly, his father’s uncle, Kennedy Polamalu, played fullback for USC and helped the Trojans win the Rose Bowl in 1985. Following his retirement from playing, Kennedy became a coach.

Additionally, Polamalu’s cousin, Nick Sualua, played fullback at Ohio State. In 1995, he helped Eddie George win the Heisman Trophy by blocking for him. Troy Polamalu’s amazing athletic feats gave immense satisfaction to his family, thanks to his multigenerational football history.
