Samboy Lim Wife: The demise of the legendary basketball player has stunned Lim’s fans in the Philippines. Lim’s high-flying feats left an indelible mark on Philippine basketball, earning him widespread admiration from fans.
Furthermore, Lim’s ex-wife, Darlene Marie Berberabe, and their only child, Jamie Lim, survive him. Avelino Borromeo Lim, often known as Samboy “The Skywalker” Lim, was born April 1, 1962, in Quezon City, Philippines. Skywalker was found at the age of 15 while playing on the courts of Phil-Am Life Homes in Quezon, thanks to former basketball player Jun Celis.
This led in sports scholarships, which were especially crucial considering that the younger Lim’s father, Lim Sr., died of a coronary thrombosis shortly before he began high school.
Samboy joined the San Miguel Beermen in 1986 and spent the remainder of his 11-year professional career with the organization. He made his pro debut on October 7, 1986. In addition, he received the first-ever sportsmanship award for his exceptional performance on the court. After retiring in 1997, he managed San Miguel, Barangay Ginebra Kings, and Welcoat House Paints.

Samboy Lim married his ex-wife, Darlene Marie Berberabe, in 1995. Darlene was the previous CEO of the Home Development Mutual Fund, popularly known as the PAG-IBIG Fund. She is also a UP Professorial Lecturer with a philosophy and law degree from the University of the Philippines.
Likewise, the couple has only one daughter, Jamie Christine Berberabe Lim, who was born on May 13, 1997. Jamie holds gold and silver medals in karate. Christine also competes in the 61-kg weight class and is a well-known martial artist in the Philippines. After ten years of marriage, the renowned Samboy and his wife decided to divorce, which was finalized in 2005.
Despite their divorce, Darlene and Lim maintained a friendly relationship, regularly celebrating Lim’s birthday with their daughter. Darlene was also always there for him and looked after him during his illness. After their divorce, neither Lim nor Darlene married another person.
How Did Skywalker Lim Die?
Lim’s health was a concern throughout his playing career, since he sustained numerous injuries as a result of his on-court antics. However, on the evening of November 28, 2014, he was brought to the hospital unconscious after falling only minutes after leaving a PBA Legends exhibition game at the Ynares Centre in Pasig.
After falling into a coma, medical personnel admitted him to the Medical City’s Intensive Care Unit before transferring him to the Intermediate Care Unit. On January 14, 2015, he awoke from his coma and was discharged home, where he resumed his treatment and rehabilitation.
After several years, Samboy was cared for by a team of medical professionals who worked around the clock. Unfortunately, he died at the age of 61 on December 23, 2023.
His family posted about his passing on Lim’s official Facebook page. According to the story, Lim passed away quietly at Medical City, surrounded by family, including ex-wife Darlene and daughter Jamie, former teammate Allan Caidic, and friend Robert Evangelista. On social media, fans and well-wishers have expressed sympathy for the footballer and supported Jamie.
