Juan Pedro Franco, formerly the largest person alive, has sometimes made news due to his weight. Even though it may sound unbelievable, Juan nearly died while breaking the record.
The Mexican citizen, who weighed 93 stone 9 lbs., or almost the weight of 10 adult males, was recognized by Guinness World Records as the heaviest person in the world in 2016.

Weight Loss of Juan Pedro Franco: Before And After
After the news broke about the former world’s heaviest man’s weight drop, Juan Pedro is once again in the spotlight.
After losing an astounding 52 stone, the guy who in 1996 held the Guinness World Record for being the heaviest underwent a remarkable transformation.
The Mexican, who weighed 93 stone and 9 lbs, was so obese that he almost died, but he is now beginning to shed weight.
That record was previously held by Manuel Uribe, a fellow Mexican who clocked in at 597 kg in 2007. But he died away in May 2016.
Earlier that year, frightening pictures of him being transported from his home in Aguascalientes to a hospital in Guadalajara for life-saving treatment made headlines.
When Juan set the world record at the age of 32, his weight had made him bed-bound, requiring the help of eight people, and he was forced to wear a diaper since he couldn’t go to the toilet.
Juan’s weight reached 10 stone when he was just six years old, and he started to have problems as a result. He gained weight rapidly, and by the time he was 17, he weighed more than 36 stone as a result of an adolescent injury.
Juan said to Guinness World Records,
“I had no control over my body; it simply took its course. I made regular diet attempts, but nothing worked, and I gave up.”

Juan Pedro Franco’s Operation to Change His Life
In 2016, Juan Pedro began a weight-loss program. Since then, he has dropped 329 kg from an astonishing 595 kilograms, or about the same as a male polar bear. He is presently 266 kg in weight.
After witnessing Juan’s cries for help, an obesity expert in Guadalajara, Mexico, agreed to operate on him. Juan initially got out of bed to undertake the treatment that would change his life.
While in the hospital, it was discovered that he had type 2 diabetes, thyroid issues, hypertension, and fluid in his lungs.
By 2017, he had already lost 26 stone and 10 pounds, which was enough to get him accepted for the revolutionary gastric band surgery.
Juan also changed his diet and fitness regimen following the operation to continue losing weight. He had shed a third of his body weight by 2019.
Juan now weighs 41 stone after losing an incredible 52 stone over the last three years. On Telemundo in Mexico, Juan spoke about the modification and said,
“You feel fantastic just being able to lift up your arms and get up every day, whether it’s to fetch a drink of water or use the toilet.”
The freedom to move around more and to exercise greater independence feels wonderful.
Mr. Franco can now move further and engage in more activity to maintain his stature, so he is no longer in bed.
